Experience. The Crew at NWOC loves sharing their knowledge, and seeing their students progress to new levels of ability. They have honed their skills while paddling in many places, from the NW, Mexico, Baja, Belize, Alaska, and California, to New Zealand, Tonga and Chile. They have 2-20 years of teaching experience, and many choose to spend time paddling on their vacations and their days off. With whitewater, sea and surf kayaking in their repertoire, they know what you need to know, and how to impart that knowledge with a sense of humor and respect.

Just about anyone can paddle a kayak on Lake Union after a
short orientation and have a great time. To paddle safely and confidently in the marine
waters of the Pacific Northwest, however, requires considerably more skill and knowledge.
Paddlers should know how to re-enter the kayak from the water, have a good grasp of the
strokes including bracing, understand and be able to predict tides and currents, and have
a basic knowledge of marine weather. For those who wish to venture off shore, competence
in surf is essential. Our schedule of classes are designed to help the neophyte paddler
achieve these goals.
