The river deltas and inlets of Washington are outstanding places to view wildlife and experience salt water kayaking. Joining an NWOC tour is a safe, enjoyable way to develop paddling skills, learn about the natural environment and meet other people who share these interests. Day trips are also good opportunities to learn about tides and currents. Chuckanut and Nisqually Delta are suitable for beginners. We use double kayaks on the tours, as they afford more stability and ease of paddling. The Deception Pass Refresher Class is only for those who have taken our Fundamentals or Total Immerison Sea Kayak Classes.

Nisqually Delta back to the top

One of our most popular trips is to the mouth of the Nisqually River in south Puget Sound. We'll spend hours exploring the sloughs, of this rich estuary, watching eagles compete, counting harbor seals, and searching for exotic waterfowl taking a break on their migrations. If you're curious about how important wetlands are to wildlife, and to us all, this trip will make a believer out of you. Directions

Chuckanut Bay back to the top

The remarkable geology of Chuckanut Bay makes a visit worthwhile all by itself. Add to that a fantastic and accessible tidal zone, dramatic coastline, and prehistoric palm trees petrified in cliff faces, and you've got an attractive and inviting must-paddle area. Purple sea stars abound, with the occassional Harlequin Duck making an appearance. An easy, scenic paddle a short drive from Seattle along Chuckanut Drive. Directions
